Burgundy, the quintessential and iconic region renowned for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals now has a sister city, Eger. Located in Hungary on a similar latitude, Eger was founded over a millennium ago and has grown into a world class wine producing region where winemaking has become a way of life. This passion for wine and the cultivation of grapes came to Eger the monks of Europe, including Burgundy, which journeyed here to spread Christianity to Hungary’s new kingdom that was established by its first Christian king. With the help of these monks, Eger’s wine making tradition was born. Using the traditions that our forefathers handed down to us and with the aid of modern technology, our team here at Kovacs Nimrod Winery aims to produce the Burgundian classics of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but with our own unique twists.
is 100% Chardonnay and is made using the Burgundian batonnage technology (i.e. sur lie) where the wine is fermented in oak barrels and then stirred on its lees, resulting in a wine that is fresh, has vivid acids, and finishes buttery with toasted oak notes.
is an essential varietal that we feel is best depicted with fruit forward flavors that are complemented by toasted oak notes and silky tannins.
