Nimrod Wines is the US arm of the Kovács Nimród Winery (KNW)
. KNW is situated in the Eger wine region of Hungary, which is located in Central Europe. The Eger region has a cooler climate, which is similar to that of Burgundy, Northern Rhone, or the Californian wine regions. KNW works with varietals that feel very much at home in this cooler climate and are capable of producing world class wines; these varietals include: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but also traditional Hungarian varietals, such as Furmint and Kékfrankos. The grapes are grown using sustainable practices and every year these healthy and happy grapes are hand harvested and then gently guided into fine, hand-crafted wines.
The Kovács Nimród Winery is situated atop seven continuous cellars on the historic Veroszala Street in Eger. Back in the 18th Century, there were hundreds and hundreds of press houses, very much like our own, which were erected above their respective cellars to handle the onsite processing of grapes. After the grape juices fermented, the wines were stored and aged in barrels in the cool tuff cellars below. Guided by this tradition, KNW continues to make wines in a similar way, but aided by cutting edge technology. We are proud of being a small, artisan winery that focuses on producing world class wines.
